Greek Italy. Southern Lucania, Metapontum. AR Half Stater, c. 440-430 BC. Obv. META. Barley ear with six grains. Rev. Apollo standing facing, head right, holding bow; all within laurel wreath. HN Italy 1497; SNG ANS 279 (same dies); Noe 320; HGC 1 1070 (Drachm). 3.96 g. 19 mm. RRR. Extremely rare, only 13 specimens cited by Noe. The only Half Stater struck by Metapontum, introduced with the first double relief Staters. VF.
