Greek Italy. Southern Lucania, Metapontum. AV Tetrobol, c. 302 BC. Achaian standard. Obv. Head of Nike facing slightly right, hair in ampyx, wearing single-pendant earring and necklace; NIKA to right. Rev. Barley ear with six grains and leaf to right; to left, METAΠON. Johnston G3; Gulbenkian 71 (same dies); HN Italy 1629; HGC 1 1023; SNG ANS -. AV. 2.59 g. 15 mm. RR. Very rare issue. Of fine late Classical style, with Nike on the obverse depicted in three-quarter view. VF/Good VF.
Accompanied by a numbered provenance ticket, from an earlier auction, possibly Jean Elsen & Fils.
