Greek Italy. Southern Lucania, Thurium. AR Distater, c. 410-400 BC. Obv. Head of Athena right, wearing crested helmet decorated with Skylla on bowl and griffin on neckguard; Φ to upper right. Rev. Bull butting right; ΘOYPIΩN above; in exergue, fish right. Noe, Thurian Distaters (NNM 71), 2; HN Italy 1781; SNG ANS 957; HGC 1 1254. AR. 15.8 g. 26.5 mm. RR. Fine style; deeply toned, with a slight die shift on the reverse. A superb specimen featuring a splendid crested helmet decorated with a Scylla. About EF/EF.
