Grand Middlesex Banner jewel, gilt and enamel, suspended from its original vertically ribbed purple and yellow silk ribbon, with gilt scroll suspension. The obverse with a circular gilt and blue enamelled banner inscribed “GRAND MIDDLESEX BANNER”, enclosing a central gilt shield charged with a kangaroo in relief, surmounted by a crown. The reverse finely engraved “Presented to Bro. E. G. Selby”, with the presentation date “8th Dec. 1854”, further stamped “L. Simpson London” beneath, retaining its original long pin fitting. An early and highly attractive mid-19th century Masonic banner jewel, notable for its clear dated presentation, strong enamel colouring and well-preserved original ribbon. Condition: Very good, with light surface wear and patina consistent with age; enamels crisp; ribbon well preserved. Date: 8 December 1854.
