Silvered/white metal star with gilt and blue enamel strap; yellow enamel primrose centre.
A bold and impressive Victorian-period Primrose League Grand Star decoration, formed as a large, faceted eight-point star. The centre carries a gilt garter strap inlaid with deep blue enamel, lettered with the Primrose League motto:
IMPERIUM ET LIBERTAS
(“Empire and Liberty”). 
Within the strap is the characteristic primrose emblem in pale yellow enamel.
The reverse retains its original brooch pin fitting and shows the Registered Design number Rd 98330 (struck to the field). This registration number dates the design to 1888 (earliest possible production date). 
Condition: Good. Enamel generally intact; primrose centre with visible age spotting; star surface with expected wear and patina; fittings complete. Housed in a black leather fitted case by W. O. Lewis, Birmingham.
