A Masonic Charity and Benevolence Medal with Original Ribbon, 19th Century - 20th Century (37.75 mm, 31.50 g).
A finely preserved Masonic testimonial medal struck in gilt bronze, suspended from its original tricolour ribbon in white, pale blue and crimson. The obverse depicts an allegorical scene of Charity seated, flanked by two attendants in classical drapery, all beneath a radiant All-Seeing Eye within a triangle. The date MDCCCXXX (1830) appears below.
The reverse is inscribed:
“HONORABLE TESTIMONIAL
OF
MASONIC
CHARITY & BENEVOLENCE
INSTITUTED
BY H.R.H. AUGt FRED.
DUKE OF SUSSEX
M.W. GRAND MASTER”
with the Masonic Square and Compasses emblem at the base. Fitted with a straight-bar suspension and long pin to the reverse.
Condition: Extremely fine; minor toning to gilt, ribbon lightly handled but well preserved, details crisp and clear. A distinguished 19th-century Masonic award, issued under Prince Augustus Frederick, Duke of Sussex, one of the most influential Grand Masters of the United Grand Lodge of England. Rare in this state and with its original ribbon.
