Period: Likely WWI–WWII era (c. 1910s–1940s)
Material: White metal with brass slider
A classic and desirable Royal Lincolnshire Regiment cap badge featuring the iconic Egypt Sphinx, a battle honour awarded for the Regiment’s distinguished service in the Egyptian Campaign of 1801. This style of badge remained in use for decades, including during the First and Second World Wars.
The design consists of a finely cast sphinx couchant atop a plinth bearing the word EGYPT, rendered in raised lettering. Beneath this lies a sweeping scroll inscribed:
ROYAL LINCOLNSHIRE REGIMENT
The badge is struck in white metal, with the scroll and lower highlights showing a contrasting gilt-brass tone. The reverse retains its original brass slider, a key indicator of authenticity and period manufacture.
Reverse
The back shows the expected plain white metal finish with the integral brass slider affixed firmly in place. Wear, oxidation, and patina are consistent with genuine service-era pieces.
Condition: Very Fine. Detail on sphinx and scroll remains strong; surface wear and patina appropriate to age; slider original and intact; no repairs.
A fine example of the Royal Lincolnshire Regiment’s historic sphinx cap badge, highly collectable among enthusiasts of British military insignia and regimental history.
