Hallmarked Sterling Silver (London, 1915–16) Occasion: 50th Anniversary (Jubilee) of the Lodge A beautifully detailed Jubilee Jewel commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Star in the East Lodge of Mark Master Masons No. 508, first established in 1866. This early World War I era jewel is crafted in sterling silver with gilt and enamel highlights, and suspended from its original crimson-and-white ribbon. The suspension bar is gilt and boldly inscribed in high-relief: JUBILEE Below this hangs the original ribbon in alternating crimson and white vertical bands, remaining in strong and presentable condition. Obverse The main badge is shaped as a Mark keystone — the defining emblem of Mark Masonry — and is enamelled with the dates: 1866 at the top 1916 at the bottom At the centre lies a vivid, pictorial blue enamel medallion encircled by the inscription: STAR IN THE EAST LODGE M.M.M. No. 508 The inner enamel roundel depicts a castle or fortified tower at seaside, waves beneath, with a radiant star above — symbolising guidance, steadfastness, and the “Star in the East” theme of the lodge name. The colours are crisp and luminous, indicative of Toye & Co.’s high-quality enamel work. Reverse The reverse is cleanly stamped: TOYE & CO LTD LONDON Full London sterling silver hallmarks: Lion passant (sterling) Leopard’s head (London assay) Date-letter for 1915–16 Maker’s mark: T & Co The original long pin-back fastening is present and in sound working order. Condition: Very Fine. Ribbon bright with minimal wear; enamel exceptionally well preserved with no significant losses; gilt and silver surfaces attractively toned; hallmarks sharp; suspension fittings fully intact.
