Royal Masonic Institution for Boys – Steward Jewel, 1913 (50.45 x 33.64 mm, 23.18 g). Maker: Spencer, London Hallmarked Sterling Silver (with coloured enamel), suspended from its original pale green ribbed ribbon. In a burgundy leather fitted case by H. S. Lindsay Ltd. A fine Edwardian Royal Masonic Institution for Boys (RMIB) Steward Jewel dated 1913, executed in sterling silver with coloured enamel and suspended from its original pale green ribbon. The design is of the classic cross-and-badge type, combining bold enamel fields with crisp die-struck detail typical of Spencer’s early 20th-century workmanship. The upper bar is a decorative silver mount with laurel and floral terminals, centred by a blue enamel panel inscribed STEWARD. The ribbon is fitted with a small enamel shield device (showing a heraldic animal and quarterings). Suspended below is the main RMIB jewel: a cross-form badge with red enamel arms and a central white enamel oval inscribed ROYAL MASONIC INSTITUTION, with side panels BOYS and the date 1913. Above sits a coronet with an eagle, and at centre is a shield with a diagonal blue band charged with gold emblems. Reverse: The reverse shows the original brooch fitting and openwork construction, with clear maker’s stamp SPENCER LONDON and hallmarks to the silver. Condition: Very good. Ribbon with age wear/creasing; enamel bright with small losses and surface wear at high points; silver with attractive toning and some handling marks; reverse with clear maker’s stamp and hallmarks; suspension secure.
