Walsey Masonic Charities – Steward’s Jewel, 1920 (29.19 mm, 9.01 g).
A scarce and attractive Steward’s Jewel awarded for service to the Walsey Masonic Charities, dated 1920. The jewel is suspended from its original pale blue ribbed silk ribbon, fitted with a gilt top bar engraved:
1920
The obverse displays a star-shaped gilt medal with blue enamelled circular band inscribed:
WALSEY · MASONIC · CHARITIES
enclosing a finely modelled allegorical scene depicting benevolence and charity beneath classical architectural elements. The reverse is plain, retaining the original long pin and suspension, and clearly stamped by the maker:
G. KENNING & SON – LONDON
The piece is a characteristic example of early 20th-century English Masonic charitable regalia, combining restrained enamel work with strong symbolic imagery.
Condition: Very Fine. Original ribbon present with light fading and gentle wear; enamel intact and well preserved; metal surfaces with even age-related patina; pin and fittings complete and functional.
A desirable dated steward’s jewel from a recognised Masonic charitable institution, well suited to collectors of British Masonic and benevolent awards.
