Dawn o’ Day Lodge No. 6317 – Founder’s Jewel, c. 1920s–1930s (44.33 x 39.14 mm, 22.91g).
Maker: (Hallmarked silver, British manufacture)
A finely executed and visually striking Founder’s Jewel for Dawn o’ Day Lodge No. 6317, crafted in silver with gilt highlights and rich blue enamel, suspended from its original black-and-gold striped ribbon.
The jewel is surmounted by an ornate gilt scroll bar bearing the title FOUNDER in deep blue enamel. Below hangs a Maltese cross-style jewel with radiating arms, centred by a crowned lion’s head within a blue enamel circlet inscribed Mortalium Omnibus Horis Sapit. The contrasting gilt and silver elements are crisply defined, with excellent symbolic balance and strong visual depth.
The reverse is engraved:
“Presented to Bro. E. Day C.P. by Dawn o’ Day Lodge No. 6317”,
and retains its original suspension, fittings, and silver hallmarks, confirming period manufacture.
Condition: Very Fine. Enamel well preserved with good colour; metalwork sharp; ribbon original with expected age wear and minor fraying; overall an attractive and honest example with pleasing patina.
