Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution – Festival Jewel, 1937 ( 35.89 mm, 20.71 g). Maker: (London silversmith; hallmarks present) Hallmarked Sterling Silver (London, 1936–37) A handsome and well-preserved Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution (RMBI) Festival Jewel dated 1937, executed in gilt and multi-coloured enamel and displaying the distinctive heraldic ornamentation associated with pre-war RMBI issues. The jewel is suspended from a deep crimson ribbon, retaining good body and colour, and surmounted by a gilt and blue enamel suspension bar inscribed R.M.B.I. with the date 1937 beneath. A finely modelled gilt heraldic beast (a seated cat or leopard) decorates the centre of the ribbon. The large enamelled shield at the base is quartered with multiple charges, including towers, fleurs-de-lis, lions, and a robed female figure, all executed in rich enamel colours. Beneath the shield, a blue enamel scroll bears the motto: KODES LA ADONAI Reverse The reverse displays a flat silver surface with clear British hallmarks along the lower edge, confirming manufacture in sterling silver, assayed in London, with the date-letter corresponding to 1936–37. The original suspension loop remains sound and functional. Condition: Fine to Very Fine. Enamel generally bright with some age-related wear; gilt details retain good definition; ribbon well-preserved for age with minor fraying at folds; reverse lightly toned and marked from age; suspension secure. A characterful and appealing example of a 1930s RMBI Festival Jewel, notable for its silver construction, large heraldic shield, and traditional pre-war design. A desirable piece for collectors of Masonic regalia and institutional festival medals.
