Maker: (Hallmarked Birmingham; silversmith initials present) Hallmarked Sterling Silver (Birmingham, 1958–59) A well-crafted and attractive Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes (R.A.O.B.) Ascension Lodge Jewel, presented in 1959, and suspended from its original tricolour ribbon in red, cream, and green. The jewel is executed in gilt and enamel over sterling silver, featuring the elegant and characteristic RAOB design elements of the mid-20th century. The upper gilt bar is engraved ASCENSION LODGE, from which the wide ribbon descends, embroidered in gold with the intertwined letters R.A.O.B. G.L.E. The lower pendant displays a circular gilt and blue enamel medallion encircled by a laurel wreath. At centre appear the classical RAOB initials in red enamel, surrounded by the Latin motto: NEC MORTALIUM OMNIBUS HORIS SAPIT (“Not even the wisest man is wise at all hours”) The year 1959 is engraved on the lower scroll, referencing the date of presentation. Reverse The reverse is neatly engraved: Bro. S. E.
