Bruttium. Kroton. Circa 530-500 BC. Drachm or Third Stater (Silver, 19.33 mm, 2.38 g). ϘPO, Tripod with three ring handles and two snakes rising from t7he bowl, the legs ending in lion's feet; below, beaded exergual line between two parallel lines; all within raised cable and dotted border. Rev. Same type as the obverse but incuse and without legend; the three ring handles and two snakes are raised (only partially visible); rayed border. Cf. HN Italy 2076. P. Attianese, “Kroton, Ex Nummis Historia”, 1992, p. 30, 16 (same dies). SNG ANS 299 (same). SNG Copenhagen 1742 (same dies). HGC 1, 1466 (same dies). Charming old cabinet tone with blue iridescent. Some deposits and corrosion, otherwise, Very Fine. Very Rare.
