Sicily. Motya. Circa 412-400 BC. Punic Didrachm featuring Segestan types (Silver, 21.26 mm, 8.22 g). Hound standing right biting a stag's head; above, small head of nymph right. Rev. Head of nymph right, the hair at the back of the head; behind the neck, ivy leaf. Jenkins, SNR 50 (1971), pl. 4, 33 (O17/R22) = Campana CNAI II, 376, 10b (same dies). SNG Ashmolean 1860 (same dies). Viola CNP 487 (same dies). Buceti 10d (same dies). Cf. HGC 2, 928. Light iridescent toning with small deposits on reverse. Near Very Fine. Very Rare.

 

This coin has the same (or very similar) dies to those found by Silvia Hurter, Segesta pl. 16, 185 (V57/R104).
