Sicily. Syracuse, Dionysios I. Circa 405-395 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 24.40 mm, 16.27 g). Charioteer driving fast quadriga prancing left, holding kentron and reins; Nike flying above crowning him; in exergue, dolphin swimming left. Rev. ΣΥΡΑΚΟΣΙΩΝ, Head of Arethusa left, underwater, wearing sphendone; four dolphins swimming around. SNG ANS 299. Tudeer 101 (V43/R70). SNG Lloyd 1406 (same dies). HGC 2, 1345. Nicely toned. Refined style, yet also fresh and joyful, unsigned but in the style of Eukleidas. Good Very Fine. Rare.
