Lot # 727 - Italy. Crucifixion. XV century scalloped rectangular plaquette setting at Pace by Niccolò Spinelli called Niccolò Fiorentino, 1430-1514. (Bronze, 121 x 78 mm). Jesus Christ on the cross between the Virgin Mary and St. John on rocky ground. At the foot of the cross, a skull. The niche frame has pillars decorated with rosettes and shells. The same pattern is used on the trabeation and on the lunette gable where is depicted benedictory God the Father between two cherubs. On the base of the frame, embellished by vegetal patterns, the inscription: . SANCTVS . SALVATOR . MONDI (AT in nexus). Bange 328. Rare. Dark brown patina with figure partially gilded and a frame of refined execution. Extremely Fine original cast. The ascription to Niccolò Spinelli, despite the frame of paduan relish is confirmed by a specimen kept in the Venetian Archaeological Museum bearing the inscription: NICOLO . M . FLOR . FECIT. Lot # 728 - Saint Peter and Saint Paul. Silhouette uniface plaquette of the beginning of XVI century. (Bronze partially gilted, oval, 114.5 x 92.3 mm, 175.00 g). Saint Peter and Saint Paul standing at sides of an altar on which two candelabra soar. Around on the oval frame is engraved the inscription: + SOC. CORP. XPI. + SACROS TE BAS + PRINC. APOST + IN VATICANO. Parts of the two candlesticks are missing. Original cast. Fixing holes on the frame. Very rare. Ex Astarte VIII, 11 October 2001, lot 191.
