Il "Bacchius l'ebreo" raffigurato inginocchiato in supplica sul retro di questo pezzo è quasi certamente Giuda Aristobulo II, che tentò di usurpare il trono della Giudea al fratello Giovanni Ircano II tra il 67 e il 63 a.C. Pompeo Magno si schierò con Ircano e sottopose Gerusalemme a un brutale assedio e saccheggio per deporre l'usurpatore Aristobulo. Costretto a inginocchiarsi in segno di sottomissione a Pompeo, ad Aristobulo fu concesso di vivere come ostaggio a Roma, ma in seguito fuggì e cercò di riprendere il trono, solo per essere nuovamente ostacolato dal luogotenente di Pompeo M. Emilio Scauro. Il termine "Bacchius" potrebbe riferirsi all'errata concezione romana secondo cui gli ebrei ellenizzati come Aristobulo adoravano Dioniso, che i Romani conoscevano come Bacco.

Tetrastyle temple with closed doors, eagle in pediment and row of antefixes along roofline; KAR in exergue. RPC I 624. AE. 10.42 g. 28 mm. RR. Very rare issue. Rough surfaces. Good F. The identification of the conjoined heads on the obverse of this coin remains uncertain. They have been variously identified as Octavian and Agrippa, Octavian and M. Aemilius Lepidus, and Octavian and Caesar. RPC states that 'the portraits are completely unlike those of Octavian and....are probably those of municipal officials.' In the case of provincial coinage, it is difficult to use style as a criterion in identification as portraits were often either the work of inferior engravers or engravers without access to the Imperial imago. Without any epigraphic evidence the exact identity of these individuals will have to remain uncertain.

Corrosions. Good F. This denarius is the most remarkable example of Caesar's vision for his future as an autocrat: there is not the slightest hint of the imagery commonly associated with Greek rulers, such as the diadem or the mention of the word 'rex'. Instead, Caesar chooses the seemingly innocuous title of 'parens patriae' (father of the fatherland), a title granted to him when he was appointed dictator perpetuus (dictator for life). Contrary to common misconception, Caesar is not wearing a laurel wreath, but a crown made of small golden leaves, as clearly seen on this specimen. This was the crown worn by Jupiter Capitolinus and by the dictator during his triumphal procession. Caesar's head is veiled to signify his role as Pontifex Maximus. For the same reason, we also find the symbols of the two most important priestly colleges: on the left, the apex, a pointed leather cap worn by the Flamines during their duties, and on the right, the lituus, the staff used by Augurs responsible for interpreting bird omens in Rome. However, despite Caesar’s careful strategies, strong opposition grew among the Senators, who foresaw their diminishing influence and power. Caesar's assassination was only a matter of time.
