- The work presents a well-structured synthesis, organized into chronological phases, of the coinage of Poseidonia and Paestum. It brings together research on archaeological coin finds in Poseidonia and the surrounding areas, conducted by the Department of Cultural Heritage Sciences at the University of Salerno in collaboration with the National Archaeological Museum of Paestum. The decision to compile the results of studies on the coinage of Poseidonia—analyzed within the broader context of Magna Graecia’s monetary history—and the issues of the colony of Paestum—considered within the framework of Rome’s coin production during the Republican period and early Imperial age—into a single volume stems from the need to take stock of the acquired data. In a field with a well-established tradition of international studies, this work aims to provide insights and open new avenues for further research.
