Rome – The Legacy – Coins as Storytellers tells an exciting, captivating, inspiring, and sometimes frightening story through the reverse sides of coins.
The author’s ambition is to spark interest in the fascinating world of ancient numismatics among both established collectors and people interested in history, and thereby attract new coin collectors.
The history and development of the Roman Empire begins even before the existence of the universe, from the chaos out of which the primordial gods emerged. The narrative then follows the development and interaction of mythology and humanity. The book traces the arrival of the first humans in Europe and Italy, through the catastrophes of the interglacial period and the collapse of the Bronze Age, up to the rebuilding of civilization with the Etruscans and their integration into the Roman world.
Visiting Rome during the imperial period can be compared to today’s Las Vegas — a bustling city illuminated in bright colors, densely filled with temples, statues, and monuments. The illustrations are based on the latest research regarding the likely colorful appearance of ancient statues and monuments, in contrast to the later perception of them as white.
This book is the first in a series of inspirational volumes in which special emphasis is placed on visual material. Each coin and episode is illustrated with a full-page image corresponding to the reverse motif of the coin.
These illustrations are authentic depictions from the Roman world (statues, reliefs, mosaics, and frescoes), photographed during the author’s research and cultural travels. The statues and reliefs have then been artistically hand-colored to recreate their presumed appearance in antiquity. - Condition
