At last, after 150 years of waiting! The first work on Sweden’s royal medals was authored by Bror Emil Hildebrand and published in two volumes in 1874 and 1875.
For the first time, a continuation has been published, structured according to Hildebrand’s work but greatly expanded with numerous new additions. Like Hildebrand’s original, it is presented in two volumes (approximately 1,400 pages in total).
Several entirely new indexes have been introduced: an index of all engravers, an index of inscriptions with translations from Latin, and an index of graphic elements and ligatures. Fully illustrated in color, in A4 format, with numerous detailed enlargements.
To highlight rarity, an extensive survey has been carried out, beginning with the sales of major collections from the second half of the 19th century, and including most modern sales up to recent years.
For the first time, a comprehensive description of the medals’ rarity is presented, accompanied by tentative valuations and rarity classifications. A new numbering system has been introduced, including concordances with Hildebrand and other specialized works in the field of medals. - Condition
