Notes
Two volumes devoted to the cataloguing and detailed recording of the so-called “Annual” pontifical medals: the most important papal medal, which was — and is still today — issued on June 29 each year (Feast of Saints Peter and Paul) to commemorate the most significant event that occurred during the preceding year of the pontificate.

The complete work, in two volumes, catalogues the medals issued from 1550 to 2008. In particular, the first volume examines those struck from the pontificate of Julius III (1550–1555) through Clement XIII (1758–1769), while the second volume analyzes the medals struck from Clement XIV (1769–1774) up to that of Year IV of Benedict XVI (2008), then reigning.

Each medal is accompanied by a standard catalogue entry featuring life-size color photographs of both obverse and reverse, the name of the executing artist, all relevant technical data, related medallistic and archival notes, and a brief historical summary of the commemorated event. The two volumes are completed by short biographies of the artists, an extensive bibliography, and the expansion and translation of the reverse legends.
