An uncommon drachm of Antoninus Pius in the twilight of his reign, with on the obverse the laureate bust facing surprisingly to the left instead of regularly to the right. Majestic and statuesque on the reverse is the head of Zeus Ammon with an orb on his head, suggesting syncretism with Kronos or the Egyptian solar deity Ra. Very well centred and well minted specimen on both sides, minimally circulated and with a fascinating original brick red ‘desert’ patina.
