From the collection of Giovanni Dattari comes this hemidrachm of Antoninus Pius, which is doubly rare: first for showing on the obverse the radiate head of the emperor instead of the laureate one, cf. Staffieri Giovanni Maria: ‘La corona radiata sui ritratti dei bronzi imperiali Alessandrini’ in NAC XLII - 2013, pp. 121-144, no. 43 f, this specimen. Secondly, for depicting on the reverse the lighthouse of Alexandria, which we have already encountered in this collection, (cf. 222 and 241), a very popular image and symbol of the Egyptian city. Here it is in its full imposing structure, immersed like the whole coin in an original homogeneous brown patina.
