Egypt, Alexandria. Gallienus 253-268. Tetradrachm (Silver, 22.00 mm, 10.60 g). Dated RY 1 = AD 253/4. A K Π AI OY ΓAΛΛIHNOC ЄY ЄYC Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right. Rev. Tyche reclining left on lectisternium (couch), holding rudder, resting elbow on pile of pillows and propping head on hand; L A (date) above, in upper field. Geissen –. Dattari-Savio 5213. K&G 90.6. Emmett 3743.1 (R5). Kellner p. 130, pl. 14, Abb. 16 (this coin). Toned, a couple of old scratches on Gallienus' face. Extremely rare type for this regnal year. Full silver. Good Very Fine. Purchased privately by A.K from Münzen und Medaillen AG, 1970. Ex A.K. Collection (Triton XXIII, 14 January 2020), lot 835 (part of). Ex CNG, E-Auction 463, 11.03.2020, lot 277. A coin of great rarity because it was exceptionally minted in full silver at a time when the misture was of low alloy. On the obverse, a beautiful statuary portrait of the young emperor then co-regent with his father Valerian I. The Tyche of Alexandria, which appears on the lectisternium only in this reign year, is auspicious of the ‘adventus augusti’.
