Workers’ Amalgamated Temperance & Dispensary Society (W.A.T.D.), Silver Member’s Jewel, c. 1890–1910 (29.34 mm, 13.57 g). A scarce sterling silver and enamel membership jewel of the W.A.T.D. (Workers’ Amalgamated Temperance & Dispensary Society), featuring two allegorical robed figures of Temperance in gilt relief on a white enamel ground, framed by laurel branches and surmounted by a blue enamel scroll bearing the initials W.A.T.D.. The lower portion displays a red Welsh dragon, indicating issue for a Welsh branch of the society. Suspended from the original maroon ribbon and a silver bar inscribed MEMBER. The reverse stamped with full British silver hallmarks and maker’s mark. Condition: Very Fine; light wear; enamel complete; ribbon worn but original. A rare survival from a now-defunct temperance friendly society.
