A scarce early Masonic charity jewel for the East Lancashire branch of the Systematic Masonic Educational & Benevolent Institution, the ornate sterling silver medal with blue enamel border inscribed SYSTEMATIC MASONIC EDUCATIONAL & BENEVOLENT INSTITUTION – EAST LANCASHIRE, dated 1901.
The centre depicts the pelican feeding her young, the traditional emblem of Masonic charity, above a scroll bearing the motto SANS CHANGER. The reverse struck with full London silver hallmarks for 1901 and the maker’s mark G.K. for George Kenning, London, with additional KENNING LONDON stamp below.
Condition: Very fine; attractive toning to silver, enamel completely intact, light age wear only. A rare and desirable pre-RMBI charitable jewel.
