Maker: Fattorini & Sons, London & Birmingham Hallmarked Sterling Silver (London, 1912–13) A finely executed Cheshire Masonic Charities Steward Jewel, dated 1913, crafted in sterling silver with richly coloured enamel and suspended from its original deep crimson ribbon. This pre–WWI example is notable for its elegant early design and its detailed architectural enamel scene. The suspension bar is enamelled in blue with: STEWARD — 1913 It features ornate scrollwork and a central gilt emblem depicting a knight with shield—an allegorical figure of charity or guardianship. The jewel hangs from a ribbed crimson ribbon folded in the traditional triangular Masonic style. Obverse The main medallion is formed as a cross with laurel wreaths between the arms, symbolising honour and benevolence. At its centre is a superb pictorial enamel of the Royal Masonic School, Cheshire, showing its sweeping classical façade, green lawns, and blue sky background. The blue enamel band at the bottom reads: CHESHIRE MASONIC CHARITIES Above the central scene is a scroll with the motto: SIC DONEC (“Thus until…” – part of the fuller motto Sic Donec used in regional Masonic philanthropy) Reverse The reverse carries full London silver hallmarks: Sterling silver (lion passant) London assay (leopard’s head) Date-letter for 1912–13 Maker’s mark of Fattorini & Sons The rim shows natural age patina, and the original long pin-back catch remains intact. Condition: Fine to Very Fine. Ribbon with mild wear but stable; enamel scene bright and appealing with only minor age spotting; silver surfaces toned attractively; hallmarks clear; suspension fittings secure and original. A desirable pre–World War I Cheshire Masonic Charities jewel, valued for its early date, pictorial enamel work, and sterling silver construction.
