Royal Masonic Institution for Boys – West Yorkshire Festival Jewel, 1918 (42.94 x 31.95 mm, 17.58 g). Maker: G. Kenning & Son, London Material: Hallmarked Sterling Silver (London, 1918) A fine 1918 Festival Jewel for the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys, issued for the West Yorkshire Province. This example is crafted in sterling silver with vivid blue and white enamel and retains its original pale-blue watered silk ribbon and gilt suspension fittings. The top bar features a laurel-wreathed panel with the date 1918 in blue enamel, symbolising contribution and merit during this wartime fundraising year. Suspended below is the monogram R M I B, neatly cast and gilded. The central medallion displays a large, beautifully modelled White Rose of York, finely executed in white enamel with green accents, set within an oval border. The surrounding blue enamel legend reads: ROYAL MASONIC INST. FOR BOYS (upper) WEST YORKSHIRE (lower) The reverse bears full and clear London 1918 silver hallmarks, along with the maker’s mark G.K.&S for George Kenning & Son, one of the foremost manufacturers of Masonic jewels of the period. Condition: Very Fine. Enamel crisp and clean; the white rose sharply defined; ribbon original and only lightly softened; silver with an attractive golden patina from age; hallmarks distinct. A handsome and early WWI-era RMIB jewel, increasingly sought after. An excellent example from the final year of the Great War.
