Commemorative Peace Medal, 1919 (41.36 x 58.05 mm, 43.21 g). Commemorative Peace medal, dated 1919, silvered metal, suspended from its original dark blue ribbed silk ribbon. The obverse depicting two allegorical winged figures embracing, symbolising reconciliation and peace, with the inscription “PEACE 1919” beside a flaming altar. The reverse showing a heraldic shield flanked by two standing angels beneath a canopy, with the Latin motto “Audi, Tace, Vide” on scrolls below. The medal is framed by a laurel and decorative border. Suspension with original ring and ribbon bar, the reverse of the bar stamped “J.R. Gaunt, London”, with original pin fitting intact. A finely modelled and evocative post–First World War commemorative medal, reflecting the symbolic language of peace and vigilance prevalent immediately after the Armistice. Condition: Very good, with light surface wear and natural patina; ribbon with minor age-related wear. Date: 1919.
