Maker: J. R. Gaunt, London (stamped to suspension bar).
In a dark green leather fitted box, gilt-tooled to lid, George Kenning & Son, Liverpool (box slightly worn/used). A substantial silver Peace 1919 medal, suspended from its original deep blue ribbed ribbon on a brooch bar stamped J.R. GAUNT, LONDON. The medal is of impressive weight and sculptural quality, with strong relief and a rich aged tone. A ribbon motto scroll below begins “AND …” and continues “… TAC …” (as struck; full motto indistinct in the photograph), with an additional small scroll at the base. The reverse is a classic allegorical “Peace” composition, showing a standing figure receiving/holding a dove and olive branch, with the inscription:
PEACE 1919
and symbolic elements in the field, executed in the characteristic style of early 20th-century medallic art.
