Material: Gilt Metal with Enamel; Original Deep-Purple Silk Ribbon
A handsome and early Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes (G.L.E.) service jewel, issued to a member of Grosvenor Lodge No. 461. The jewel features its original long purple riband, embroidered in gold with the familiar RAOB/GLE monogram.
The top gilt suspension bar is engraved:
GROSVENOR LODGE
A secondary bar below carries the lodge number No. 461, from which the medallion hangs. The enamel centre bears the motto:
NEMO MORTALIUM OMNIBUS HORIS SAPIENS
(“No mortal is wise at all times”)
alongside the lodge-specific initials C.W. on a deep blue band, framed by a stylised foliate border.
The reverse is fully engraved:

Condition: Very Fine. Gilt surfaces well-preserved with gentle toning; enamel clean and intact; ribbon complete and only lightly handled for its age; engraving crisp and fully legible.
