Lodge: Nottingham Road Lodge No. 3570 (inscribed) Maker: Toye, Kenning & Spencer, London Material: Gilt Metal with Enamel Date: c. 1930s–1940s A well-made and attractive RAOB jewel of office, suspended from the traditional tricolour ribbon (light blue, red, blue) with gilt buffalo-horn suspension bar enamelled: ANTE DILUVIAN ORDER OF BUFFALOES The pendant is a gilt wreath-edged medallion, crowned and centred with the Order’s shield surrounded by the motto: JUSTICE · TRUTH · PHILANTHROPY The enamel remains bright and the overall design is characteristic of pre-war Toye & Spencer manufacture. The reverse is engraved: PRESENTED TO BRO. —— NOTTINGHAM ROAD LODGE No. 3570 GLE and bears full maker’s marks together with a sharply struck hallmark confirming London manufacture. Condition: Very Fine. Gilt surfaces clean with minor age patina; enamel largely intact; ribbon original with only moderate handling; inscription crisp and fully legible.
