Royal Order of Buffaloes – High-Grade Jewel with Triple Bar Suspension, c. 1930s–1950s (59.63 x 41.28 mm, 20.45 g).
Maker: Stamped (partially visible; typical of regalia firms of the period)
Material: Gilt Metal with Enamel; Original Deep-Blue Ribbon
Period: Mid-20th Century
A handsome and substantial Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes (R.A.O.B.) jewel, distinguished by its triple-bar floral suspension — a premium style often associated with higher office or long service. The ribbon is the characteristic deep blue associated with elevated rank within the order.
The medallion displays the classic interlaced star motif with central buffalo imagery and the surrounding Latin mottoes:
WISDOM – FAITH – KNOWLEDGE
DEO – REGI – FRATRIBUS – HONOR – FIDELITAS – BENEVOLENTIA
All enamel fields remain clean and well preserved, contrasting elegantly with the gilt metal frame. The lower roundel contains the early-style “H” monogram, used in several pre-war and mid-century Buffalo lodges.
The reverse retains the original pin, hinge, and clasp, with signs of genuine period wear. Ribbon is original, clean, and unfaded — unusual for pieces of this age.
Condition: Very Good. Gilt surfaces bright with minor age toning; enamel excellent; ribbon firm with only light handling wear; reverse fitting structurally sound. A superior example of this jewel type.
