Order of Foresters – Court Officer’s Jewel (Early–Mid 20th Century) (43.11 x 34.79 mm, 23.70 g).
Maker: Spink & Son Ltd., London
Material: Sterling silver with enamel; original ribbon
Period: c. 1920s–1940s
A rare and visually impressive Ancient Order of Foresters (A.O.F.) Court Officer’s Jewel, crafted in sterling silver with polychrome enamel and suspended from its original tri-colour ribbon. These jewels were awarded to officers of individual "Courts" (local branches), and this particular example displays an exceptionally decorative top bar and pendant.
The suspension mount features a heraldic stag’s head crest rising from a coronet, flanked by crossed hunting horns—classic symbols of the Foresters’ origins as a friendly society rooted in woodland lore and mutual aid. Beneath the crest hangs a ribbon in green, red, and white, folded in the Foresters’ distinctive double-loop style.
The pendant is a richly decorated openwork shield with scrolling foliate motifs. At its centre is the interlaced Foresters monogram F C O in red, white, and blue enamel. Surrounding this, two green enamel scrolls read:
ANCIENT ORDER OF FORESTERS
The craftsmanship and ornate design highlight the prestige associated with officer rank within the society.
Reverse
The reverse bears early Spink & Son Ltd., London hallmarking, including:
Maker’s mark: SPINK & SON LTD.

Condition: Fine. Ribbon with honest wear but good colour; enamel with small losses but largely intact; silver surfaces toned and patinated from age; hallmarks present though softened; suspension fittings secure.
A scarce and highly decorative Foresters Court Officer Jewel, notable for its horn-and-stag crest, ornate silverwork, and colourful enamel. An excellent example for collectors of fraternal and friendly society regalia.
