Masonic Charity Jewel
Early–Mid 20th Century** (68.78 x 34.29 mm, 39.91 g).
Maker: Unmarked
Material: Silver
A finely executed Masonic charity jewel of oval form, suspended from a five-pointed star surmount and retained on its original royal blue ribbon with a central pale stripe.
The obverse is struck in high relief, depicting an allegorical scene of Charity, a robed female figure extending a bowl towards a seated, semi-nude male figure, rendered with notable depth and sculptural quality. Above, a scroll bearing the Latin motto “AGROS SANAT HUMANITAS” crowns the composition, surmounted by the Masonic emblem.
The reverse is plain and engraved “W. Bro. A. D. Duncan – No. 3491”, the lettering crisp and clearly legible. Silver hallmarks are present at the lower edge, confirming material and period. The ribbon remains well coloured and structurally sound, fitted with its original pin-back suspension.
Condition: Very Fine. Silver with light surface wear and gentle patination consistent with age; details sharp and well preserved. Ribbon clean with minimal fraying; suspension secure. A particularly attractive and complete example.
