In a brown leather fitted case, gilt-tooled to lid, by L. Simpson & Co., London.
A substantial gold and enamel R.A.O.B. Order of Merit / Honour of Knighthood jewel, suspended from its original deep maroon ribbed ribbon with ornate gilt mounts. The ribbon bears an oval name cartouche engraved “Primo Arthur Allibone”. Below hangs the principal cross-form jewel with scrolls MERITUM and BUFFALOES, centred by a radiating starburst and a blue enamel circlet around a buffalo head (with red-set eyes), the whole executed with strong relief and crisp finish.
Reverse:
The reverse is fully engraved with the conferment inscription, reading in part:
“This Order of Merit / Honor of Knighthood was conferred upon Primo Arthur Allibone by the members of the Royal Castle Lodge 2114 …” and dated “12th Feb. 1934”, with maker’s name L. Simpson & Co., London and hallmarks beneath.
Condition: Very good. Enamel bright with light age wear; gold with minor surface marks; ribbon with normal wear/creasing; fittings secure; case with expected handling wear.
