Royal Masonic Institution for Boys – Festival Jewel, 1940 (49.95 x 34.14 mm, 21.35 g).
Maker: Kenning & Son, London
Hallmarked Sterling Silver (London, 1939–40)
A handsome and well-preserved Royal Masonic Institution for Boys (RMIB) Festival Jewel dated 1940, executed in gilt and multi-coloured enamel and featuring finely detailed heraldic ornamentation.
The oval medallion displays a radiant gilt background supporting the full achievement of arms: shield quartered with multiple charges, flanked by two supporters (hounds/deer), surmounted by a coronet and crest, and framed below by the motto VIRTUS INVIDIAM VINCIT. The outer blue enamel band reads THE ROYAL MASONIC INSTITUTION FOR BOYS.
Below the main device is the small circular enamel emblem incorporating the square and compasses and the initials RMIB. The date 1940 appears at the suspension bar.
Reverse
Stamped KENNING & SON, LONDON, a respected manufacturer of quality Masonic regalia.
Additionally, the lower reverse shows full British silver hallmarks, indicating manufacture in sterling silver, assayed in London, with the date-letter corresponding to the 1939–40 hallmarking year.
Condition: Very Fine to Extremely Fine. Enamel clean, bright, and fully intact; gilt details sharply rendered; minor surface marks to the reverse consistent with age; suspension fitting sound.
A superior example of an early wartime RMIB Festival Jewel, notable for its silver construction, fine workmanship, and rich heraldic presentation. Highly desirable for collectors of Masonic regalia and institutional festival jewels.
