Maker: Regent Pearce & Co. / W. Russell Ltd., London
Material: Gilt Metal with Jewelled Eyes (Glass) and Ribbon
An ornate and visually striking Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes (R.A.O.B.) G.L.E. Lodge Jewel, featuring a bold lion-head motif and suspended from its original pale ribbon with purple edge stripes. This jewel is characteristic of mid-20th-century RAOB workmanship, notable for its expressive sculptural detail and decorative gilt finish.
The top bar is crowned with a red-enamelled coronet and flanked by scrollwork, supporting the broad ribbon embroidered in gold with the intertwined RAOB initials R.A.O.B. G.L.E. The ribbon terminates in a three-ring suspension mount decorated with a small flower device.
The pendant consists of an ornate openwork gilt frame centred by a finely modelled lion’s head, complete with red stone (glass) eyes and radiating mane lines. The lower scroll element provides symmetry to the composition, typical of RAOB lodge jewels of this style.
