R.M.B.I. – 106th Annual Festival Steward’s Jewel, 1948 (45.52 x 41.78 mm, 23.62 g). Maker: Spencer, London (stamped on reverse) Material: Silvered Metal with Enamel; Original Ribbon Date: 1948 (as inscribed on top bar) A well-preserved Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution (R.M.B.I.) Steward’s Jewel issued for the 106th Annual Festival in 1948. This example retains its original deep crimson ribbon and pinback fitting, characteristic of mid-20th-century festival jewels. The top bar is finely cast with decorative scrollwork and bears the inscription: STEWARD 1948 Suspended below is the ornate shield-shaped medallion, featuring three finely modelled lions’ heads in relief — the heraldic device associated with the festival year. A scroll above reads R.M.B.I., while a matching scroll below is inscribed: 106th ANNUAL FESTIVAL The reverse displays the maker’s stamp SPENCER LONDON, confirming manufacture by one of the prominent regalia firms of the period. Condition: Very Good. Ribbon clean with light age wear; silvered finish with mild toning consistent with age; details on the heraldic lions sharp and attractive. Reverse clean with clear maker’s mark. A solid and appealing example of a mid-century festival jewel.
