Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes – Primo Jewel, Coronation Lodge No. 8631 (1954) (27.69 mm, 24.63 g). Maker: Thomas Fattorini Ltd., Birmingham Hallmarked Sterling Silver (Birmingham, 1953–54) A distinguished and attractive R.A.O.B. Primo Jewel awarded to a Brother raised to the degree of Primo, the first major rank of honour within the Order. This example was issued to Coronation Lodge No. 8631, and features a fine combination of enamel, gilt metal, and sterling silver craftsmanship. The top bar displays a blue enamel scroll inscribed PRIMO, flanked by decorative gilt flags. Suspended below is the original dark-blue moiré ribbon embroidered in gold with the intertwined RAOB initials R.A.O.B. G.L.E. At the base of the ribbon is a gilt scroll panel reading: CORONATION LODGE 8631 The jewel itself consists of a laurel-wreath frame surrounding a blue and white enamel medallion bearing the Order’s core virtues: JUSTICE · TRUTH · PHILANTHROPY At the centre is the traditional RAOB buffalo-head monogram interlaced with decorative red enamel elements. Reverse The reverse is neatly engraved: BRO. ARTHUR ETHERIDGE RAISED 27–7–54 CORONATION LODGE 8631 Above the inscription appear crisp Birmingham silver hallmarks: Sterling silver (lion passant) Anchor (Birmingham assay) Date-letter for 1953–54 Maker’s mark: T. FATTORINI LTD. The original attachment loop and fittings remain in place. Condition: Fine to Very Fine. Ribbon with visible wear and fading at centre; enamel remains bright and sharply detailed; gilt areas show expected age toning; engraving clear and legible; silver hallmarks crisp; suspension secure. A highly representative and personalised RAOB Primo Jewel, valued for its silver construction, lodge inscription, and clear documentation of the recipient’s elevation in 1954. A solid collector-grade example of mid-20th-century Buffaloes regalia.
