Sicily. Lilybaion (as Cape of Melqart). Siculo-Punic Coinage, circa 330-305 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 25.29 mm, 16.75 g). Charioteer driving quadriga galloping right with rearing horses, holding reins in her hand; above, Nike flying left gives wreath to the charioteer; in exergue, RŠMLQRT ("Raš Melqart" in Punic). Rev. Female head (Tanit-Arethusa) right, hair bound in ampyx and sphendone, wearing triple pendant earring and necklace; around, three dolphins. Jenkins, SNR 50 (1971), pl. 15, 6 (O5/R5) = SNG ANS 721 (same dies). SNG Lloyd 1598 var. = HGC 2, 731 var. (hair on reverse). De Luynes 922 var. (hair on reverse). Viola CNP 315 (same reverse die). Light iridescent tone. Extremely fine. Extremely Rare, known in very few specimens.
