Royal Masonic Institution for Boys – Steward Jewel, 1928 (86 x 55 mm incl. ribbon; maroon ribbon). Maker: G. Kenning & Son, London. Gilt hallmarked silver with coloured enamel, suspended from its original maroon ribbed ribbon. A handsome Royal Masonic Institution for Boys (RMIB) Steward Jewel for North Wales, dated 1928, executed in gilt silver with vivid enamelwork and suspended from its original maroon ribbon. This interwar-period piece displays a bold heraldic layout and strong colour contrast, typical of Kenning’s well-finished London manufacture. The upper fitting is a gilt bar with red enamel lettering STEWARD, above a blue enamel date tablet 1928. Below, the maroon ribbon is affixed with a circular enamel device inscribed NORTH WALES, surrounding the Welsh dragon emblem. Suspended beneath is the principal badge: a spread-winged eagle in gilt relief, behind a central multi-panel enamel shield with quartered heraldic devices, flanked by scrolls lettered RM and BI. At the base, blue enamel scrolls bear the Welsh motto: ERYR • ERYROD • EMRAI Reverse The reverse is of openwork construction, stamped G. KENNING & SON, LONDON, and carries hallmarks to the metal. The original pin and suspension fittings remain present and functional. Condition: Very good. Ribbon with light age wear and minor edge fraying; enamel bright with small surface marks/wear at high points; gilt silver with light toning and handling marks; reverse with clear maker’s stamp and visible hallmarks; suspension secure. A desirable dated RMIB Steward Jewel with strong North Wales attribution, attractive enamel, and confirmed Kenning manufacture—well suited to collectors of Masonic and charitable institution regalia.
