Maker: Kenning & Son Ltd., London Hallmarked Sterling Silver (London, 1939–40) A highly attractive and regionally distinctive Royal Masonic Institution for Boys (RMIB) Steward Jewel, dated 1940, crafted in sterling silver with vibrant enamel and gilt accents. Beneath the shield lies the motto scroll: VIRTUS INVIDIAM VINCIT (“Virtue conquers envy”) A small circular enamel emblem incorporating the square and compasses completes the design. Reverse The reverse is stamped: KENNING & SON LTD LONDON and bears full British silver hallmarks: Sterling silver (lion passant) London assay (leopard’s head) Date-letter for 1939–40 Maker’s mark of Kenning & Son Ltd. Lot # 384 - Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes – Jewel for “New Territories” (Hong Kong), G.L.E. (45.64 x 32.75 mm, 30.69 g). Maker: J. R. Gaunt & Son, London Material: Gilt metal with enamel; original ribbon Period: Mid-20th Century (c. 1940s–1960s) A rare and geographically significant Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes (R.A.O.B.) G.L.E. jewel associated with the New Territories of Hong Kong. RAOB regalia from colonial Far East lodges is notably scarce, making this an attractive and desirable piece for advanced collectors. The top gilt suspension bar is enamelled R.A.O.B. in deep blue and features ornate scrollwork typical of Gaunt manufacture. Suspended from this is the original tri-colour ribbon of red, white, and black, clean and structurally sound for its age. A prominent gilt buffalo-horn device sits below the ribbon, a symbol of strength and fraternity within the Order. Beneath this, a decorative scroll bearing G.L.E. (Grand Lodge of England) supports the main enamelled shield. Obverse The shield is enamelled in red and blue with gilt detailing. It bears the inscription: NEW TERRITORIES At centre are two crossed kukri knives, symbolic of the Gurkha regiments historically stationed in Hong Kong and the wider Far East — a strong indication that this jewel relates to a lodge connected with British military personnel. Around the shield border are gilt rampant lions on a blue ground, recalling heraldic motifs associated with British colonial institutions. Reverse The reverse is plain gilt metal except for hallmarking at the bottom, indicating manufacture by: J.R. Gaunt & Son, London (Marks consistent with mid-20th-century Gaunt production.) A period affixed label remains with old cataloguing/valuation notations. Condition: Very Fine. Ribbon clean with only light wear; enamel vivid and intact; gilt surfaces bright with gentle age patina; original pin-back suspension fully functional. A seldom-seen RAOB jewel from a Hong Kong–related lodge, notable for its crossed kukri motif and New Territories designation — both of which strongly appeal to collectors of overseas RAOB regalia.

Lot # 408 - Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes – Primo Jewel (Moose-Head Type) (45.68 mm, 39.66 g). Maker: Unmarked (typical mid-20th-century RAOB manufacture) Material: Gilt metal with enamel; original striped ribbon Period: Mid-20th Century (c. 1950s–1970s) A distinctive and visually striking RAOB Primo Jewel, featuring the rarely encountered moose-head motif rather than the traditional buffalo-head emblem. This design variation is associated with certain overseas lodges and provincial jurisdictions within the Order. The top bar is gilt and enamelled in deep blue with the inscription: PRIMO It is flanked by a pair of stylised banners and surmounted by a classical laurel wreath motif. The jewel is suspended from an eye-catching ribbon in the colours green, orange, and black, folded in the typical RAOB rosette style at the top of the pendant. A small roundel at the base contains a further gilt device, possibly lodge- or rank-related, completing the composition. Reverse The reverse is plain gilt metal, typical of uninscribed RAOB officer or rank jewels. No maker or presentation engraving appears, though the construction and style align with mid-century regalia workshops active in the UK and Commonwealth. Condition: Fine. Ribbon with bright colours and only light handling wear; enamel intact with good gloss; gilt surfaces moderately toned from age; reverse clean; suspension fittings original and fully functional. A bold and uncommon RAOB Primo Jewel, notable for its moose-head device and vibrant ribbon. An appealing addition to collections of Buffaloes regalia, especially those focused on design variations and non-standard insignia.
