Grand Lodge of England Past Master jewel, gilt and enamel, suspended from its original dark green ribbed silk ribbon with pale borders, the ribbon embroidered “RGL” and “GLE”, fitted with an ornate gilt suspension bar and horned terminals. The obverse with a circular gilt and blue enamel medallion surmounted by a crown, the border inscribed “GRAND LODGE OF ENGLAND”, enclosing a standing lamb within a gilt field, suspended from an engraved gilt bar inscribed “PIONEER LODGE No. 4586”. The reverse plain gilt with openwork details, engraved “Presented to Bro. The rich blue enamel displays strong colour saturation with fine radial detailing, contrasting attractively with the warm gilt finish. The jewel is suspended from a simple ring loop, giving a clean and restrained appearance consistent with mid-century county and provincial regalia. Mid–20th Century** Maker: Spencer London Material: Gilt Metal with Polychrome Enamel; original riband A finely executed Primo Jewel for Town Moor Lodge No. 3694, featuring a gilt starburst form enclosing a blue enamelled circular panel bearing the intertwined RB cipher, surrounded by the motto: PALMA NON SINE PULVERE The jewel is surmounted by a blue enamelled PRIMO scroll and suspended from its original blue riband, complete with gilt mounting bars and original pin fitting. The ribbon retains its woven gilt initials. The reverse is engraved: BRO. CHARLES R. W. Gilt and enamel jewel suspended from a deep claret ribbed silk ribbon, fitted with ornate gilt bars inscribed “1st Deg: 8-12-46” and “2nd Deg: 14-1-48” (dated 8 December 1946 and 14 January 1948). The obverse features the Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes star-form badge, with central enamelled lion’s head within a blue enamel circlet bearing the motto “Nil Mortali Omnibus”, and surrounding inscriptions including “Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes” and “Shorts”. The reverse plain, engraved to “Bro. Albert F. Budworth, Clarendon Lodge 3221, Exalted 15-4-51” (dated 15 April 1951), retaining original pin, suspension ring, and fittings. Simpson & Co., London (hallmarked) Material: Sterling Silver with Gilt Finish and Enamel Date: 1942 (inscribed on reverse) A distinguished and impressive Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes (R.A.O.B.) Grand Council jewel, crafted in sterling silver with a rich gilt finish and enamel highlights. This example was awarded to Bro. R. S. Bills in 1942, marking dedicated service within the Order. Suspended from a blue-and-tan ribbon, the upper bar is engraved “PRIDE OF DULWICH LODGE”, signifying the specific lodge to which the recipient belonged. The ribbon bears embroidered gold motifs including: RAOB GRAND COUNCIL Accompanied by the six-pointed Star emblem. Ribbon: Tricolour red, white and blue with oak-leaf device The Czechoslovak War Cross 1939–1945, instituted by the Czechoslovak government-in-exile to recognise acts of bravery and distinguished service in combat against the Axis powers. The obverse is formed as a broad-armed cross with crossed swords between the arms, the central medallion bearing the Bohemian lion. The reverse displays the armorial shields of the historic Czechoslovak lands, surmounted by the national emblem. Presented Masonic jewel, gilt metal, suspended from its original ribbed silk ribbon in ochre with central red stripe and grey edges, fitted with an enamelled presentation bar inscribed “PRESENTED TO BRO. J. MOFFAT”, and a second enamelled suspension bar dated “APRIL 16TH 1946 – SUCCESS LODGE”, retaining its original pin fastening. The obverse with a gilt five-pointed star jewel surmounted by a crown, bearing the interlaced letters R.A.O.B. in coloured enamel at centre, suspended beneath the presentation bars via a decorative horned motif. Maker: Gillett & Johnston, Croydon / Kent (stamped on reverse) Material: Gilt Metal with Enamel; Original Multicolour Riband A distinctive and attractive Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes (RAOB) W.C.N. presentation jewel, awarded in 1948. The jewel retains its original rainbow-pattern ribbon, unusually vibrant and associated with Kent-area lodges. The applied shield with white horse and motto INVICTA further identifies the Kentish origin. The gilt suspension bar is engraved: 34th W.C.N. Below hangs a finely made triangular jewel, the traditional emblem of the W.C.N. office, with a frosted gilt field and central raised “N” over a white-enamelled inner triangle. The reverse is neatly engraved: PRESENTED TO Wor. Bro. H. S. Waites BY THE OFFICERS AND BRETHREN 8th SEPT. 1948 Maker’s mark appears below: GILLETT & JOHNSTON / KENT Condition: Very Fine. District President Jewel, dated 1949, awarded to a high-ranking Brother serving at district level. The jewel combines rich gilt ornamentation with bold enamel detail and is suspended from its original multi-coloured ribbon. The upper suspension bar is a decorative gilt element inscribed PRESIDENT, with a matched lower bar engraved 1949. Maker: Unmarked (typical mid-20th-century RAOB manufacture) Material: Gilt metal with enamel; original striped ribbon Period: Mid-20th Century (c. 1950s–1970s) A distinctive and visually striking RAOB Primo Jewel, featuring the rarely encountered moose-head motif rather than the traditional buffalo-head emblem. This design variation is associated with certain overseas lodges and provincial jurisdictions within the Order. The top bar is gilt and enamelled in deep blue with the inscription: PRIMO It is flanked by a pair of stylised banners and surmounted by a classical laurel wreath motif. A gilt and enamel Steward’s jewel for the 1968 Festival of the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution, the upper scroll-form bar enamelled R.M.B.I. – STEWARD – 1968, suspended by a gilt ring to an ornate heraldic medallion. The lower jewel features a classical bust above a shield bearing two red hands, framed by acanthus ornament and enamel scrolls reading LOYAL AU MORT above and MANIBUS VICTORIA DEXTRIS below. Reverse impressed with the maker’s mark G. KENNING & SPENCER LTD., LONDON, retaining its original pin and loop fittings. Condition: Very fine; light surface wear to gilding, enamel panels clean and intact, fittings sound. An unusual and attractive RM.B.I. festival jewel.

Lot # 433 - Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes First Degree Jewel (40.92 x 50.76 mm, 29.49 g). Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes (R.A.O.B.) First Degree jewel, gilt and enamel, suspended from its original red ribbed silk ribbon with blue borders, fitted with a gilt suspension bar with horned terminals, retaining its original pin fastening. The obverse with a circular gilt and blue enamel medallion surmounted by a crown, the border inscribed “FIRST DEGREE” and “R.A.O.B.”, enclosing the standing buffalo emblem in high relief, surrounded by ornate gilt scrollwork. The reverse plain gilt, engraved “Presented to Bro. B. Gage, 30th Oct. 1972”, with maker’s and quality marks at the base, the ribbon mounted on a gilt backing plate. A well-preserved late 20th century Buffaloes jewel, clearly attributed and dated, retaining its original ribbon and suspension, and displaying strong colour contrast between enamel and ribbon. Condition: Very good, with light surface wear and patina consistent with age; enamels intact; ribbon clean and well preserved. Date: 30 October 1972.

Maker: Toye, Kenning & Spencer (Poljoy / Estrehann), London Material: Gilt Metal with Enamel Date: 1972 A handsome and colourful jewel issued for the 1972 Festival of the Royal Masonic Institution for Girls (R.M.I.G.), worn by a subscribing Steward. The jewel is suspended from a cream ribbon and topped with an elegant white enamel bar inscribed: 19 · STEWARD · 72 with side panels bearing the RMIG initials in red enamel. The pendant badge is shaped as a Tudor rose with vivid red and green enamel petals, surrounding an oval shield whose gilt and enamel heraldic devices represent the charitable institution. At the top sits the traditional double-headed eagle crest, finely modelled and retaining its original gilt finish. Around the central shield is the Latin motto: PRO · MERITO · PRO · COD · EMPIRE The reverse retains the original pin fittings and is clearly stamped with the maker’s mark: POLJOY (ESTREHAN) LTD 5 GREAT QUEEN STREET LONDON W.C.2 Condition: Very Fine. Enamel bright with minimal rubbing; gilt surfaces clean and well preserved; ribbon lightly toned but sound; reverse with mild patination and crisp maker’s stamp.

Festival, the blue enamel top bar reading STEWARD, suspending a crimson ribbed ribbon applied with a gilt Pegasus emblem. Below hangs a circular gilt jewel with laurel wreath border, the centre enamelled in blue and white depicting a stag beneath a tree, surrounded by the legend ROYAL MASONIC BENEVOLENT INSTITUTION, and dated 1973 in a lower panel. Reverse stamped MARPLES & BEASLEY, BIRMINGHAM, with original pin-back fitting. Condition: Very fine; minor surface wear to gilt, ribbon lightly aged but intact, enamels bright and undamaged. An attractive example of a later R.M.B.I. festival jewel.

Presented 8 September 1974** Maker: (Hallmarked; maker’s mark present) Material: Gilt Metal with Enamel; original riband A finely produced Founder’s Jewel for Philanthropic Lodge No. 2463, presented in 1974 to Hon. Knight Sir A. E. Allen. The jewel is of star form, finished in gilt and centred with a richly enamelled roundel displaying the seated allegorical figure representing Justice, Truth, and Philanthropy, encircled by the lodge title: PHILANTHROPIC LODGE No. 2463 The jewel is suspended from its original green and pale blue riband with red centre stripe, surmounted by an ornate gilt bar bearing the word FOUNDER in blue enamel. The reverse is engraved with the full original presentation inscription: “Presented to Hon. Knight Sir A. E. Allen 8th September 1974” The original pin fitting and suspension remain intact. Condition: Very Fine. Enamel bright and intact; gilt with light handling wear only; engraving crisp and fully legible; ribbon original and clean with minimal age toning; fittings secure. A gilt and enamel Steward’s jewel issued for the 1979 Festival of the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys under the Province of Wiltshire. The red enamel bar inscribed STEWARD suspends a pale blue ribbed ribbon, below which hangs a gilt and enamel medallion showing two winged figures flanking the Ark of the Covenant, with surrounding legend THE PROVINCIAL GRAND LODGE OF WILTSHIRE – R.M.I.B., and date 1979 in a lower scroll. Reverse plain, with original pin-back suspension. Condition: Very fine; ribbon lightly toned, enamel clean and bright, gilding with minor age wear. A good example of a late 20th-century RMIB festival jewel.

Maker: Thomas Fattorini Ltd., London & Birmingham Hallmarked Sterling Silver (London, 1979–80) A well-crafted and attractive Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes (R.A.O.B.) attendance jewel, presented in 1980, executed in gilt and enamel over sterling silver, and suspended from its original light-blue and white ribbon. This jewel represents the modern, refined style of late 20th-century RAOB regalia. The top bar features a gilt scroll engraved with the Order’s motto, attached to a crisp ribbed ribbon in alternating blue and white. Hanging below is the distinctive six-armed star badge, encircled by a laurel wreath symbolising merit and dedication. Independent Order of Oddfellows, Manchester Unity member’s badge, gilt and enamel, suspended from its original blue and white vertically striped ribbed silk ribbon. The obverse with a diamond-shaped gilt badge, enamelled in blue and red, inscribed “Independent Order of Oddfellows M.U.”, centred with the Order’s intertwined emblem, within a decorative scalloped border. The ribbon suspension fitted with a gilt top bar mounted with an enamelled heraldic shield beneath a laurel wreath crest. The reverse plain gilt, retaining its original long pin fitting, and stamped “Sterling” to the upper suspension, with Birmingham maker’s mark visible to the reverse of the badge.
